Discover that first memory that started all the rest. Think about an emotion and think back to that first time you had it, now what's there? Good chances are you discovered that first time you learned how to experience that emotion and often times it's tied to some event.
Sometimes that emotion is tied in with other emotions but these emotions create behavior and the behavior is triggered based off cues. For example, most people anchor many emotions around the holiday season in December each year. Just think about when you first hear Christmas music, holiday lights or start seeing trees on cars each year where does your mind go?
Unfortunately It's also the highest suicide rate of the year too because people often focus on what they don't have instead of what they do. Keep that in mind all year long because a gesture of kindness you may make to a stranger might just a positive emotion that saves someone's life, you may never know.
It’s these neuro-pathways of your brain that have been wired from events in your life where patterns have formed that produce behavior based on things you take in through your five senses.
The big question is are you getting all the results you desire in life, business, athletics, relationships, etc...? If you are great, if not check out awareness below.
Awareness is the key to recognizing if you are getting the results you desire. The thing is you have a choice how to react once you become aware of what is happening.
Yes, you have a choice of how to look at an event that has happened from the past, present or future. Will I choose to react in anger or love to someone who lashes out? Is this person just lashing out because they are in pain and just like a scared animal are doing it out of self-defense?
Seek to understand first and ask the person why they are doing what they are doing because you are no longer interested in the behavior they are displaying and you just like to know why they are doing what they are doing?
Ask yourself what cues appear when events trigger behavior because there are cues for when it’s time to love, laugh, learn, create success, focus, etc…
Once you know the cues you will have the ability to fire them anytime you desire to get the result. Now open up your mind to reprogramming these cues so you only get the desired results you choose by reprogramming your mind in the next step.
Albert Einstein famous quote "Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.” Yet people every day continue to do the same thing and expect different results.
Well, mind if I share a little secret with you here?
You’ll continue to do the same thing over and over unless you give yourself another option that is more attractive based on lessons you have learned from the past, that is if you really choose to change your results.
Got light? Just think if Thomas Edison would have stopped after he learned after 1,000 times how not to create a light bulb we might not still have light.
The exact quote by Edison: "I speak without exaggeration when I say that I have constructed three thousand different theories in connection with the electric light, each one of them reasonable and apparently to be true. Yet only in two cases did my experiments prove the truth of my theory."
So the key to reprogramming just as Edison is learning from the past on what worked and then installing a proven strategy that has gotten you the results you desire and releasing any emotions that having been associated with the past that is keeping you in a state of mind that is not allowing you to see the transformation in your mind.
To transform your mind is the most important and last step in the process.
Transformation is the final step in the process and is the desired result from doing the D.A.R.T. Process.
This is where the person creates the vision for what they desire instead of what they have been receiving in their life. The thing is someone’s mind does not know if they are in the past, present or future.
Daydreaming about the past or future is a prime example because your body will then shift into the moment. By closing your eyes and thinking about the past or future you can actually go there and look at what happened or happens as if you were a fly on the wall.
No, I’m not talking science fiction time machines, just using your mind. People talk about visualizing all the time, especially in sports.
For example, if a person happens to get anxiety around heights, after going through the first 3 steps in the D.A.R.T. Process (Discover, Awareness, and Reprogram), the simple transformation would be for the future how they desire to be around heights. Then replacing that with what they have been feeling which, up to this point, has been possibly fear & anxiety.
Think about it as if you are upgrading faulty software on a computer. Once the computer software has been upgraded the outdated program no longer is used.
A simple way to check to see if the D.A.R.T. Process works is next time a cue is activated does the person react in the old way or the new way. This is the true testament of the work. If it gives them the response they were looking for great, if not, rinse and repeat until the old way has been completely erased.
Sometimes people will even forget why they started the process in the first place so I recommend writing things down because it’s not uncommon for people to say they never remember feeling the old way they did and that it even sounds silly. And yes this really happens all the time.
